From the Heart of Mount Vernon: The 4th Street Classic Legacy

At 4th Street Classic, we are more than just a basketball tournament; we are a movement. Born from the vision of Ms. Fredell Myers and James Taylor, our journey began with a profound purpose: to intertwine the thrills of athletics with the virtues of academics and community.

As Ms. Fredell Myers, a beacon of community development, joined forces with James Taylor, aka "ICE MAN," a veteran of the National Basketball Association's administrative arena, they pooled over two decades of experience from venerable institutions like the NBA, NYC Board of Education, and YMCA. Together, they established a grassroots city league program that has now become a cornerstone of youth development in Mt. Vernon.

Bridging Gaps, Building Futures

The goal is to bridge the gap between community, socialization, academics, and athletics. The 4TH STREET CLASSIC program will help student-athletes in regard to the importance of education in order to bring up their academic standards.

The essence of the 4th Street Classic is to bridge the gap between community, socialization, academics, and athletics. We stand firmly on the belief that education is the keystone for elevating academic standards among student-athletes. Our program doesn't just produce exceptional players; it nurtures well-rounded individuals who strive for excellence beyond the court.

“4th Street Classic is not only for exceptional students-athletes who excel in athletics but need help in social and academic development as well.”

Our goal is to bridge the gap between community, socialization, academics, and athletics. The 4TH STREET CLASSIC program will help student-athletes in regard to the importance of education in order to bring up their academic standards. Through these programs, we will provide boy mentorship support, counseling on drug and tobacco abuse prevention, continuing education, while building awareness of the many internships in job opportunities as statisticians, photographers, coaches, referees, broadcasters, scorers, trainers, etc.
